Steps for Acquiring a Medical Card

If you have a qualifying condition, you may be able to take advantage of the Massachusetts Medical Use of Marijuana Program. Becoming a registered patient requires two steps. You can complete both steps and visit a Marijuana Treatment Center all in the same day.

First, you’ll need to consult with a qualifying cannabis physician, and receive an evaluation about your condition and the possibility to receive benefit from medical cannabis. In many cases, these evaluations can even be done over the phone. If you meet the requirements, your physician will provide a Medical Use of Cannabis certification. Click here for a list of local certifying physicians.

Second, you will need to register an application with the state and create a user account. To do this, you will need a PIN number supplied by your physician. You can then visit the patient portal at Mass CIP, where you can create your account, apply for your medical card, and receive a printable, instant-access temporary card that will allow you to visit ATG that day. Your plastic ID card will be mailed within two weeks of your application being received.
